There are Different Types of Braces

If you are about to adjust your smile, the good news is you have options! Did you know there are several different types of braces? Well, it’s true! Depending on your own alignment needs, you will be able to figure out which system is ideal for you and your unique smile.

When it comes to braces, your orthodontist, Dr. Rush Davidson will be able to recommend the best course of action for your specific needs. There are, however, three familiar and very different types of braces, which are traditional braces, ceramic braces, and clear aligners that our team is happy to discuss with you.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces are more easily recognized and consist of many wires, rubber bands, and brackets that are bonded to each individual tooth. These brackets move the teeth and jaw into the ideal alignment over time. This is an option prevalent in young adults and teenagers and most often the least expensive.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are a popular option for young adults because they are harder to see and blend into the teeth. These braces consist of brackets that bond to the individual tooth and are more discreet. In some cases, you can color the ceramic for style and fun, which is a great idea to do for young teenagers.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are unique systems, such as Invisalign® which works through a series of clear aligners that snap over your teeth. These aligners are clear, and since they snap on and off, there are no food restrictions. In most cases, each aligner needs to be traded for a new one roughly every two weeks to keep your alignment on track.

Not every kind of braces will work for every single person. However, depending on your current alignment, our orthodontist will be able to help you find the right braces for you.
