A dental bone graft is a procedure that restores or increases bone volume in the jaw. It is often necessary for patients who have experienced bone loss due to tooth loss, gum disease, or trauma.

Bone grafts are typically recommended to provide a strong foundation for dental implants, support natural teeth, or restore facial structure. If you’ve experienced significant bone loss, a graft can improve oral function and aesthetics.

The procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia or sedation, ensuring you feel no pain. After the procedure, mild discomfort and swelling are common but can be managed with prescribed medication and proper aftercare.

Healing time depends on the size and type of graft. Most patients recover from initial discomfort within a week, but it can take several months for the graft to fully integrate with your natural bone.

In some cases, dental implants can be placed at the same time as the bone graft. However, many patients require a healing period of 3-6 months before implant placement to allow the graft to fully integrate with the jawbone.
